As an artist, Stuart seeks to create interactive experiences that help people confront their assumptions and engage in a conversation about the connections that exist between us as humans and the natural environment that we occupy. He works on both independent and collaborative projects, with an ability to cultivate strong and respectful relationships with fellow artists and local communities to ensure that on-site installations are both efficient and effective at starting these important conversations.
SCULPTURE
Inspired by the natural environment, Stuart uses locally-sourced, found materials to create works that evoke a sense of place and purpose.
Highlights include:
Sculptures By the Sea in Cottersloe, “Cabin Fever” @ Jaroc Gallery, Cow Parade, and “Transience” featured at the Howard Park Winery
PHOTOGRAPHY
Stuart chases the changing light in cities to capture the realities of urban life, and in nature, the impact of seasonal shifts on the environment.
Highlights include:
An artists residency in Finland focused on changing landscapes, and work featured in Australian magazines such as Rip Tide and Monster Children.
VISUAL ART
With paint and paper as some of the first materials Stuart used to explore his creative instincts, 25 years later, they continue to evolve and expand with each new experience and represent his largest body of work.
Highlights include:
Solo exhibitions at the Kurb Gallery in Perth, the Margaret River Galleries, along with being featured in the Alexandrina Art Prize in South Australia.
